Day 12: Taj Mahal Day!

Today was very exciting because we woke up at 4am to see the Taj Mahal! It is best to see it at sunrise because there are less people there and also the way the light hits the building is beautiful. We were in awe- it was breath-takingly beautiful and we took so many pictures to remember it! We saw the inside of the Taj Mahal where there were replicas of the tombs of the emperor and his wife. We learned that only private tours are able to go underground and see the real tombs! It was very interesting to learn about the history of the Taj Mahal and see one of the 7 wonders of the world!

It was very cool to see how perfectly symmetrical everything was in the grounds of the Taj Mahal. We also learned that if you take a picture from straight on at a low angle, you can see a perfect reflection of the building in the water.

When the sun finally rose and it started to get hot, we headed back to the hotel. Next, we headed off to the Agra Fort. It was very beautiful and interesting to learn about the history of the fort. Half of it was red from one emperor, and the other half was white marble when another emperor finished it.

Next, we packed up our bags and checked out of our hotel. We stopped at a marble store on the way to Delhi, which was very neat. They showed us very high quality marble pieces, including coasters, picture frames, table tops, chess pieces, and more.

All of the pieces were handmade with marble and gemstones and they were so beautiful! Some of us bought a souvenir here, and then we headed on the road to Delhi. All of us were so tired from the early wake up that we all slept through the bus ride. We finally made it to Delhi and just hung out at the hotel and called it an early night. We have a big day tomorrow exploring all of Delhi so stay tuned!
